Shared Governance provides an opportunity for classified employees to shape Palomar College's future through active participation in committees, councils, and task forces. This collaborative process influences decisions on policies, academic initiatives, budget allocation, strategic planning, and campus projects. As a union member, your involvement amplifies our collective voice, advancing our goals and values.

Councils

Serving as the principal participatory and planning governance body, the College Council reviews and recommends the college's direction, ensuring alignment with its Vision, Mission, and Values. It advises the Superintendent/President on policy and governance matters and oversees the participatory governance process. 

This council focuses on fostering an inclusive and respectful environment for all. It provides strategic direction for internal and external communications, addresses human resource needs, and supports professional development initiatives that promote antiracist organizational change. 

Dedicated to maintaining equity and excellence in instructional and student success programs, this council ensures all students receive the support they need for lifelong learning and career success. It leads innovative strategies to enhance student access, success, and equity, promoting a welcoming and inclusive campus culture. 

This council identifies and advocates for the college's technology and facilities needs, ensuring they support student learning and institutional effectiveness. It makes recommendations for the strategic direction of technology, facilities, and sustainability priorities, aligning with the college's master plans.

Aiming to support a culture of continuous quality improvement, this council monitors the college's fiscal health, evaluates progress on institutional goals, and facilitates the integration of planning, assessment, and resource allocation. It champions data-informed decision-making to enhance equity and student success.


Committees & Taskforces

Oversees the college's accreditation processes, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and preparing necessary reports and documentation.

Manages and evaluates auxiliary services such as the bookstore, food services, and other non-academic services, ensuring they meet the needs of the campus community.

Focuses on promoting mental health and wellness among students and staff, developing programs and resources to support a healthy campus environment.

Reviews and makes recommendations regarding employee benefits, ensuring comprehensive and competitive offerings for college staff.

Advises on the development and management of the college's budget, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and financial stability.

Collaborates with campus law enforcement to ensure safety and security, reviewing policies and procedures related to campus policing.

Supports the professional growth of classified staff, overseeing programs and opportunities for skill enhancement and career advancement.

The Curriculum Committee is the primary body responsible for the development and recommendation of curricular policies. It coordinates, evaluates, and reviews the college curricula to encourage innovation and excellence in instruction. 

Advises on services and accommodations for students with disabilities, ensuring accessibility and support for their academic success.

Guides the long-term planning of educational programs and campus facilities, aligning resources with the college's strategic goals.

Promotes equity in hiring practices, monitoring compliance with equal employment opportunity regulations.

Assesses the effectiveness of the college's governance structures and processes, recommending improvements as needed.

Focuses on initiatives related to the college's status as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, developing programs to support Hispanic/Latino students.

Reviews and updates college policies and procedures to ensure they are current, effective, and in compliance with regulations.

Works to create a safe and inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ students and staff, addressing issues of discrimination and promoting acceptance.

Oversees professional development opportunities for faculty and staff, ensuring access to quality training and growth initiatives.

Monitors and evaluates campus safety protocols, making recommendations to promote a secure environment for the college community.

Develops and implements strategies to promote environmental sustainability across campus operations and facilities.

Encourages health and wellness among employees through programs and activities that promote a balanced lifestyle.

Plans and prioritizes technology initiatives to support the college's educational and administrative functions.

Coordinates tutoring services to enhance student learning and success, ensuring the availability of effective academic support.
